Using ROBS to Start, Acquire or Grow a Business
Jonathan Roberts is the co-founder of Nexus, the first Rollovers as Business Startups (“ROBS”) fintech product that clients interact with like other finance apps they love. Nexus pairs a modern interface with a guided digital workflow that walks clients step-by-step from initial eligibility check through funding and stock issuance, helping them get their equity check ready sooner. For some clients, Nexus enables them to access equity without overextending their personal cash runway. Others use it to contribute more equity and secure greater ownership in the business. Clients can complete their application digitally on the Nexus site without a sales call or fee commitment. Jonathan and his co-founder Wes built Nexus after going through the ROBS process themselves with an incumbent provider – an outdated experience involving countless phone calls, emails, handoffs, and 50+ PDFs.
Before Nexus, Jonathan spent the last decade as Co-Founder and Managing Director of Menalto Advisors, a leading sell-side M&A advisory firm, where he advised on more than 50 successful transactions with companies including Apple, Google, Intel, Meta, Qualcomm, Sony, Carlyle, and Danaher. Earlier in his career, he worked in technology investment banking at Pagemill Partners (acquired by Duff & Phelps) and in strategy and operations at Deloitte Consulting. He holds FINRA Series 63, 79, and 82 licenses and graduated summa cum laude from Miami University with degrees in accountancy and management.
